BBS Door Games, Door Game Servers, and IGM Lists

Bulletin Board Systems (BBS) have long been a source of entertainment. BBS “Door Games”, text-based external third-party game programs, have been around for many years. The most popular of these has been The Legend of the Red Dragon. IGMs are Inner-Game Modules, most popularly used by The Legend of the Red Dragon.

List of BBS Door Game Servers

The following is a listing of special Door Game servers where BBS doors are hosted on a single place where BBS Sysops can direct their users to play door games. This allows the BBS Sysop to concentrate on other areas of their BBS while letting someone else handle door games. Also, it has been increasingly hard to run BBS doors on modern Windows servers since most Windows servers are 64-bit and BBS Doors are older 16-bit DOS programs. And finally, it’s great to offer more doors than you could ever host locally!

BBSLink

BBSlink allows you to offer popular, established door games with large, active player bases on your BBS.

BBSlink is free, easy to configure and works with most modern (and some older) BBS software. Connection clients are available for 32-bit Windows systems, Linux scripts in BASH and Python as well as native connection scripts for Synchronet and Amiga CNet software.

Users pass seamlessly from your system to the door game of their choice through the connection client that is just configured like any other door. They are connected to the BBSlink server by telnet and their BBSlink account is linked to your BBS meaning should the caller want to play again, they must return to your BBS. BBSlink games cannot be accessed by directly connecting to the server.

DoorParty

Subscribers to DoorParty for their BBS use RLogin and SSH to access the doors. The user of each BBS never needs to do anything, just connect and choose the doors they’d like to play! On the sysop side, setup is a snap. There is an an installer for Windows systems, and provided easy instructions for *nix systems. Instructions and a custom install package are on the Doorparty wiki. The server has over 180+ door games with every one registered, and about 70 DOS text games. The LORD game also has about 130 IGMs rotated to 5 random per day! DoorParty uses ZERO required ads, and is 100% free, forever. It’s hosted by Throwback BBS.
